Micropenis Treatment for Adults
Understanding the Condition and Options
Small Penis?
Micropenis is a medical condition characterized by an atypically small penis despite otherwise normal anatomy – usually discovered in infancy or very early childhood. If you have made it to adulthood without addressing the condition, don’t despair! There is micropenis treatment for adults, and Sovereign Male clinic specializes in just that.
What Is Micropenis or Microphallus Syndrome?
Micropenis, or microphallus syndrome, is a rare medical condition where a person has a normally formed, fully functional penis that is significantly smaller than the average size. The condition is typically diagnosed during infancy or early childhood and is most often caused by a deficiency in fetal testosterone production. If applied early, hormonal therapy can be effective in promoting growth toward a more typical penile length.
What It Is and What It Isn’t
Assuming the patient has no other health concerns, a micro penis functions like a normal penis. Most men with a micro penis can urinate, reach orgasm, and maintain erections. Penetration may be challenging, but alternative forms of intimacy can still bring satisfaction.
In some cases, a micro penis is associated with lower sperm count, reducing fertility. Patients with micropenis can still have children, however! With proper medical and emotional support, these patients can lead normal, fulfilling lives.
What Is the Average Size of a Penis?
- Average Penis Size: For adult men, the average stretched penile length (SPL) is around 5.25 inches (13.34 cm).
- Average Penis Girth/Thickness: When erect, the average penis girth typically falls between 3.6 and 4.5 inches (9.14 and 11.43 cm).
- Normal Size of Penis: A penis is generally considered to be within the normal range if its SPL falls within 2.5 standard deviations of the average.
- Definition of Micropenis: Micropenis is defined as a penis that measures 3.67 inches (9.32 cm) or less when gently stretched in an adult. For newborns, anything under 0.75 inches (1.9 cm) in stretched length qualifies.
How to Measure a Penis Correctly
To measure your penis, take a firm ruler and press it against the pubic bone at the base of the penis while flaccid. Gently stretch the penis to its full length and measure from the base to the tip. This stretched penile length (SPL) method ensures consistent and reliable measurement.
Micropenis Adult Treatment Options
Micropenis is usually identified and treated in infancy. However, non-surgical micropenis treatment for adults may bring modest improvements, while surgical penis reconstruction (phalloplasty) can drastically improve the size and appearance of the patient’s penis.
1. Testosterone Replacement Therapy
Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) is the first line of treatment for men with confirmed hormonal imbalances or low testosterone levels. While testosterone therapy for micropenis is most effective when started in infancy, adult men can still benefit from restored hormone levels. TRT can improve sexual function, mood, energy, and potentially promote modest penile growth as part of a broader treatment plan.
2. Hormone Replacement Therapy
For patients with complex hormonal imbalances who don’t respond fully to TRT, our male health specialists may recommend alternative hormone replacement options. When treating microphallus syndrome, hormone therapy is often used in conjunction with other penis enlargement procedures to maximize the results
3. Big Shot™ Penis Enlargement
Our Big Shot™ treatment is a non-surgical, minimally invasive penis enlargement option, ideal for patients with micropenis condition. The procedure involves the injection of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) combined with hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers to enhance both the length and girth of the penis.
Other Conditions Related to Male Organ Size
Inconspicuous Penis Conditions
Micropenis is one type of “inconspicuous penis,” a condition where the penis appears smaller or is partially or completely hidden by surrounding tissue, such as skin, fat, or a webbed membrane. Other types of inconspicuous penis include:
- Webbed Penis: a condition where the scrotal skin is attached to the underside of the penis, making it appear shorter. This can affect both function and appearance and typically requires surgical correction.
- Buried Penis: this occurs when the penis is hidden beneath abdominal fat, excessive pubic tissue, or poorly attached skin. While buried penis may be present at birth, it can also develop due to obesity or previous surgery. Treatment may include weight loss, liposuction, or surgical reconstruction to expose the shaft and restore function.
At the Sovereign Male clinic, we effectively treat all types of inconspicuous penis conditions, helping our patients achieve normal penis size and restore their confidence.
Micropenis vs. Small Penis Syndrome
It’s important to differentiate micropenis from “small penis syndrome,” a psychological condition where a person believes their penis is small despite it being within the average range. Small penis syndrome is often rooted in body image issues or distorted expectations due to misinformation or media, especially pornography.
Psychological Support and Coping
Many men with micropenis or other conditions related to male organ size experience anxiety, depression, or social withdrawal. Sometimes the media falsely links penis size to masculinity, but the reality is that self-worth and sexual satisfaction are not determined by physical measurements.
While we offer a range of treatments to correct the anatomical size of the penis, psychological counselling or therapy can provide additional coping tools to help improve confidence and sexual relationships.
